Saturday, Drew and I decided to take a trip to Tupelo with the kids to visit Elvis Presley’s Birthplace and Museum and the Zoo. It was soooo hot out and we were drenched (except for the hubby, so unfair) within 20 minutes. Like there was a photo of me and the kids that I decided not to include in here because it literally looked like I had just stepped out of the pool (minus the soaking hair) but my face wasn’t just glistening, it was dripping. So embarrasing, because there were people there in 3/4 length sleeve shirts that weren’t even sweating. Is that a southern thing? Like does your body adapt to the heat and stop sweating or are you born with the skill to not sweat in 100 degree weather? Tell me your secrets guys. Anyway, despite the heat, it was super interesting learning about Elvis Presley’s story and checking out all the cool sites.
(Ella was handing off a bow (a stick) to Elvis, she gets guitars and violins mixed up sometimes. ;) )
Okay funny thing, we didn’t realize it, but Drew later found out that we were visiting during Elvis Presley week. I didn’t even know that was a thing. But there were some real fans there repping him in every way. I was able to snap a photo of these ladies in front of us decked out in some bejeweled Elvis sneakers. Talk about dedication.
We had one shot to get a family photo on the swing on Elvis’ porch, sweatiness and all. Of course the kids weren’t looking, but hey, kinda happy I don’t look like a stepped out of a pool, we don’t get a family photo too often.
I loved getting to walk through his little house. It was only made up of two rooms; a bedroom and a kitchen. There was also a guide in there who told us about what it was like in that day and age. Sometimes I wish we lived in simpler times like this.
After we left the museum we grabbed a few cold bottles of water and hit the zoo. Kind of wishing we would have saved this visit for a day when it wasn’t so hot and humid, but it didn’t seem to bother the kids too much. It was so fun hearing them mimic the cows, the birds, and the lion we saw and hearing Ella’s growing “animal name” vocabulary was so sweet :)
The kiddos zonked out on the way home as expected and Drew and I stopped to feed our Backyard Burger craving. Love full Saturday’s with the fam ♥ Hope you all have a great week!
